So the most loyal developers still take the extra mile. It takes a lot of Will and interest in Reason as a DAW to do it. That´s the equation, and if PH wont lower their cut, it is the less work of the devs that can make them go into RE market one by one.Īs is now, it seems the RE platform cannot take the VST features in simular waym and have to find workarounds and compromises, and that it is very time consuming. They are not happy with PH taking their cut when they at the same time have to work too many hours to get it over to RE. So, the easier road is what I see as main reason at the moment. They have already made the hard work, and porting it over to RE without too much struggle, as said earlier, they would be fools not porting it to RE.

VST devs still have to adapt and upgrade their other plugins to new OS and program updates, so maybe they prefer doing all that themselves while keeping 100% of the sale price.īut if it were easier to transform the VST to RE, I guess more would do it despite the less income from the price. It might be that they too are tired of the time it takes to port and the limited reward when PH take say at least 30%.

As small company, I can see the logic in that, but I really hope they have not totally left Reason. I get a bit concerned though, when devs like Softube, who have started porting their effects, seem to have abandoned the RE format, If that wont happen soon, I am sure the RE shop will still see wonderful plugins and instruments and new innovations only for Reason. That is amazing.īut as mentioned, it should also be good if it were easier to translate existing VST:s to the RE platform.

Let the VSTs come as they may.Īll Kudos to those developers that create Reason exclusive or unique RE:s. I think we're pretty lucky with Reason, we should be grateful that' it's completely sand boxed and works as a unit with no pieces. Reason on the other hand promotes creativity. Ableton is a little better but seems very static. I love the look of Studio One 3 but can't for the life of me come up with any good music in it, it all sounds like crap to be honest. I love VST's but don't enjoy using any other programs except Reason. The VST' community want that one but it's not available for them at this point. But I also think that some developers have done very well? Like Rob Papen? Softube, Selig? I don't really know to be honest.ĭevelopers shouldn't be looking to port their stuff over to Reason but to create something new based on what they already have.

I can understand seeing as Propellerhead takes a cut from the RE's sold. But they also mentioned that some developers had lost money from selling the REs. Lets hope RE format will be as common as the other to port to, and that if buying one of them, one can choose cross platform license. I mean, there already are a few different formats in the plugin world. They would be stupid not wanting to expand their markets, if it was easier to bring it over. The less work they need to invest in the porting, the more devices we will see. Seems there is too much Re-work that has to be done, and still not get all functions right,Īnd that many of them can not justify the time spent on it compared to keep working for new VST or Kontakt.

The VST devs want to be able to almost directly transfer their products from the VST to the RE. Yes, and it probably means that it is possible, but would take too much work for too small market?
